Are there subsidies for solar panels in Germany? Yes, but they look different from what many guides promise. There are few classic grants. Instead there are several very effective benefits: no VAT on purchase, tax-free income, a feed-in tariff guaranteed for 20 years, low-interest KfW loans and regional programmes such as proKlima in Hanover. There is also an important deadline: the EEG amendment 2027 changes the rules for new small systems. Here is an overview of all funding options.<\/p>\n
On 29 July 2026, the federal cabinet approved the EEG amendment 2027. For new rooftop systems under 25 kW, the permanent fixed feed-in tariff is to be replaced from 2027 by a temporary transition payment followed by direct marketing. Existing systems and all systems commissioned by 31 December 2026 keep their tariff for the full 20 years. Parliament, the Federal Council and the EU Commission still have to approve the law. Grid registration and meter installation often take several weeks, so a project aiming for 2026 should start now.<\/p>\n KfW does not support PV systems and battery storage with grants, but with the low-interest loan 270. It is open to private individuals, companies and municipalities and is applied for through your bank. Important:<\/p>\n Today the most effective support is in the tax system. The zero VAT rate saves you the 19 % VAT that used to apply to the system, storage and installation, several thousand euros for a typical 10 kWp system with battery. In addition, income from feed-in and self-consumption is free of income tax for systems up to 30 kWp per unit, and under the small business scheme no VAT is charged on the feed-in tariff either. For most homeowners this means hardly any paperwork with the tax office.<\/p>\n Regional grants are the only type of funding where you actually receive extra money. In the Hanover region, the most relevant is the proKlima climate fund: its DachVollToll programme supports PV systems that use as much of the roof as possible in Hanover, Hemmingen, Laatzen, Langenhagen, Ronnenberg and Seelze. According to proKlima, applications for 2026 are possible until 31 October 2026. These programmes change often, have limited budgets and almost always have to be applied for before you place an order.<\/p>\n There is currently no nationwide grant for private battery storage. However, batteries benefit from the zero VAT rate, can be financed through the KfW loan 270 and are sometimes subsidised by municipalities.
